The season continues with wonderful lessons on peer pressure, cooperation, standing up for yourself and gratitude. It has been so much fun to learn the girls personalities and have them open up to us about their lives. It is also amazing to see how hard they are working to get ready for the 5k. These girls take our runs seriously and love to race each other around the track or even just walk with a buddy that they know is going to motivate them to keep moving. It’s truly wonderful to see.

Positive Self-Talk is Hard!

From the Coach: This week our girls are learning about positive self-talk. I often find I’ll say something negative about myself in order to get a laugh or make an excuse for something I’ve done that was silly or thoughtless. This lesson was a wonderful reminder of what a downer that can be. As one of our girls put it, “negative self-talk wears you out so that you don’t want to try new things or believe in yourself.” Wow. These girls are so smart! I think they will be teaching the coach a lot more than the coach will be teaching them!

Plugging in to the GOTR Cord!

From the Coach: The Fall season is off to a great start! Our girls at Veteran’s Park were a little quiet on Tuesday, but we knew that wouldn’t last. Sure enough by Thursday afternoon they were excited to run and ready to share with the group. This week we learned about plugging in to the GOTR cord and that GOTR is a fun, positive place to be where we encourage and uplift each other. What a great way to set the tone for our time together!

Fall registration is under way!

Registration for the fall season is off to a fantastic start! We are experiencing an incredible amount of interest in the program so far and are hoping to serve a record number of girls this fall! We are also welcoming groups in four new areas outside of Lexington; Rockcastle County, Franklin County, Jessamine County and Marion County. We’re excited to be able to bring the program to more girls in our area. Can you believe the girls start training next week? Where did the summer go! GOTR Fall Season is almost here!

The 2011 Fall season is almost here! Registration is now open and groups will start meeting the week of August 22nd. New this year, you can register through our website! You can also fill out the paper registration form that is sent home with your daughter and return that to school or mail it to us. We are looking for a few more coaches, so if you know of anyone that might be interested please have them contact Heidi at heidi@gotrcentralky.org.

Speaking of coaches, training will be held on August 13 and August 17 at Seton School. Again contact Heidi to register. Julie will do a great job preparing you for your group and it is wonderful to get a chance to meet the other coaches. See you there!

First GOTR Lex Tennis Tournament is a Hit!

The first ever Girls on the Run Lexington Tennis Tournament was a smash hit! Everyone had a wonderful time despite the heat and we’re already looking forward to next year. The money raised will go towards scholarships and healthy snacks for our girls. We can’t thank the participants and sponsors enough for everything they did to serve up a great day!
